              REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL

The Junior School celebrated the 69th Republic Day of our country at school on 25 Jan 2018. The school presented a festive look with ‘tricolour trees’, specially decorated soft boards and children wearing the tricolours on their cheeks and literally on their sleeves! The melodious rendition of various patriotic songs reverberated in the school corridors.

The students of classes I D & I E presented a special cultural programme on the occasion. The choir sang a patriotic song, ‘Mera mulk mera desh .....’ passionately, all the while holding the tricolours in their hands. The speech and poems by the little ones emphasised the rich cultural heritage of our country and the pride we take in practising unity in diversity. Through an English skit these young students beautifully depicted the roles played by famous leaders of our country’s freedom struggle and the leaders who helped in unifying the country. They also performed a dance on a medley of patriotic songs, which was beautifully choreographed and splendidly presented by class I boys and girls. The programme ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

MEASUREMENT WEEK  AT JUNIOR SCHOOL ( 15 -19 Jan 2018)

The students of classes UKG –V took part in various interesting activities related to the theme, ‘Measurement’ from 15 Jan- 19 Jan 2018 at school. The concept of BALA (Building as a Learning Area) was kept in mind while planning the activities.

The little ones of UKG measured desks and tables using pencils and bright sketch pens. They also enjoyed checking their heights on their class ‘giraffe chart’ and learnt about tall and short. Class I students used their little hands to measure the smart boards in the class by hand span method. They also calculated the length and the breadth of their classrooms using the square tile as the unit.  Class II children weighed themselves on a scale and did an analysis by making class-wise graphs like pictograph, bar graph and line graph. Class III students were all excited to use the foot span method to find the perimeter of the basketball court. Since it was a non standard unit of measurement and the results were different for each child, they learnt to respect individual differences.  Class IV students used colourful origami square papers to find the area of the floor tiles. Using metre scales, class V students worked in groups to measure the length, breadth, area and perimeter of the open stage.

The activities were not only enriching but fun filled and thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. The week long activities helped the children overcome their apprehensions about ‘measurement’ and make Math a friend for life!
