Crossword Puzzle Activity

CROSSWORD PUZZLE ACTIVITY

Educational games and puzzles are one of the best ways to take out the drudgery out of learning. Crossword puzzles are of great use in teaching learning process. They give a gentle break, allowing the students to work together, relax and still they will be learning while they do them. Keeping this in view, the Mathematics department conducted an activity – Solving the crossword puzzle –for the students of class IX. The students were divided into the groups and each group was given the unsolved crossword puzzle. The hints were shown on the smart board. With the help of hints, students solved the puzzle. The crossword puzzle was based on basic geometrical concepts. In the end, the answers were discussed with the teacher. The students enjoyed a lot and developed positive attitude towards Mathematics. They realized that Mathematics can be fun too!!!

    Just-A-Minute Competition

     JUST-A-MINUTE COMPETITION

    CLASS-VIII

     The Chemistry department conducted JUST-A-MINUTE competition on the topic ‘NUCLEAR POWER: A TOOL OR TOY’ for class-VIII on 28th August, 2015.

    Two students from each section of Class-VIII participated & presented their views. The topic generated a great amount of information on the subject throwing up concerns about the misuse of nuclear power. At the same time immense potential of nuclear energy as a source of power was discussed.  Their knowledge about the theme was portrayed within the time frame with proper elaboration. Result of the competition is as follows:-

      Van Mahotsav

      EVS Club, TAFS celebrated “VAN MAHOTSAV” on 27th August, 2015. A special morning assembly was held in which students presented a cultural programme.

      The programme commenced with the recitation of an English poem followed by a speech by students of class X. Then a group of students of class VIII performed a skit highlighting the significance of trees and forests in our lives. The programme moved further by the recitation of a self composed Hindi poem by a student of class XI.  Then, school choir sang a beautiful song emphasizing on the conservation of forests.

      School principal Mrs. Deepika T. Singh addressed the gathering and motivated the students to keep the school campus Clean and Green.

      The special assembly was followed by the tree plantation ceremony in which students of class VI planted about twenty five saplings at various places across the school campus.

        An Interactive Session: Class XI

        ‘Communicate; Appreciate; Inspire:’

        An Interactive Session

         An Interactive Session for the parents of class XI students was organized on 22 August, 2015 in the Activity Hall at TAFS. Most of the parents enthusiastically participated in the session.

         The parents were welcomed by Ms Shubhra Bhatnagar, the class representative of class XI. She started the session on a positive note with poem recitation, suggesting that the children are very precious and we need to adopt a patient and understanding approach towards them.

         Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Ms Deepika Thapar Singh, “We should communicate, interact and spend quality time with the children so that they share everything and do not ‘shut down’. She expressed deep concern on the average performance shown by many students due to various reasons. She stressed the need “to be inspiring parents, not be ‘the helicopter parents’ and appreciate the privacy of their wards.” She said that the need of the hour is to reduce the communication gap & boost up the confidence of the children by saying, ‘I trust you.’

         The parents were apprised of important information regarding various subject streams, available subject options, examination system, CBSE guidelines etc. through an informative PPT. Then the ‘House’ was thrown open to the parents and a healthy & positive interaction with the principal and the teachers helped them to clarify all the queries they had.

         The session came to an end as the teachers & the parents joined hands to work as a ‘Team’ for the betterment of all the children. It was an enriching experience for all present.

          TechFest'15

          “Tech Fest’15-Expect the Unexpected” was jointly organized by Techno Geeks, Computer Club and Infinity, Mathematics club of TAFS on Thursday, 20 August 2015. Almost 500 students from 35 different schools participated in 9 different events at 8 different venues in the school campus. Following events were organized:        

          1. Flash It!! - Photography

          2. Total LANage - Computer Gaming

          3. Synchronize - Online Event

          4. Code-a-Thon - Programming

          5. Senior - Quiz

          6. Junior - Quiz

          7. Conceptualize - Model Making

          8. Symposium

          9. Cipher - Online Event

           

           The events were judged by 5 well known personalities of their field.


          All the judges were presented mementos by the Mrs Deepika T Singh, Principal.   She also gave away the trophies and certificates to all the winners of different events. Delhi Public School, Rohini won the overall trophy of Tech Fest’15. The speech delivered by the principal was quite motivating and inspiring not only for the students but also for the staff members. She emphasized on the importance of organizing and participating in mega events like TechFest’15.


          Mr Shivender Kumar Bhardwaj delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked all the participants, accompanying teachers, volunteers and all staff members for organizing such a big event with unmatched efficiency. He specially thanked Techno Geek club members. All the participants, accompanying teachers and judges appreciated the efforts made by TAFS students and teachers in organizing the events.

            POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

            CONSUMER CLUB

            CLASSES :VI-VIII

             The Gen-X Consumer Club conducted a poster making competition for classes VI-VIII on the topic ‘MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS’ on 19th August 2015.

            Students displayed their knowledge and talent through creative posters made by them. As an aware citizen they showcased how advertisements have the potential to deceive the consumer. Enthusiastic participation by the students made the competition a wholesome experience.

              INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS - JUNIOR SCHOOL

              Junior School celebrated Independence Day, on 13 Aug 2015, with great fervour and patriotism. The students of class II enthralled the audience with the song ‘Taakat Vatan Ki Humse hai’. Class IV students reminded us of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters’ through character portrayal. The great leaders of our country like Mahatma Gandhi, Vallabh Bhai Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Bal Gangadhar Tilak were potrayed by the young students. The revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Chandrashekhar Azad, all came alive on the stage shouting slogans. Mangal Pandey and Rani Laxmibai too were remembered on this occasion thereby bringing alive the moments of our country’s freedom struggle.

              ‘With freedom comes responsibility’- This message was given by the students of class IV  through a Nukkad Natak. They made an effort in creating awareness about conserving our resources like water and air. They also emphasized on the importance of not wasting food and keeping our surroundings clean.

              The students of classes IV and V presented an electrifying dance performance, on the song ‘Yeh Hindustaan Hamara….’, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the young audience. The celebrations culminated with the rendition of the national anthem.

                Air Cmde L.N. Sharma , Principal Director, Education was the Chief Guest at the 69th Independence Day Celebrations held at The Air Force School. Wg Cdr S.M Sharma Executive Director, The Air Force School was present on the occasion. The school band with students from VI-IX in spotless white, performed brilliantly as the guests entered the school precincts. The NCC (Girls) and NCC (Boys) presented a guard of honour, attired smartly in their cadet uniforms. Air Cmde Sharma unfurled the tricolour in a simple but impressive ceremony followed by the singing of the national anthem.

                Addressing the school, the Principal Mrs Deepika T Singh said, “Let’s cherish our freedom. Learning lessons from history let us move ahead unified in our thoughts and actions.” She stressed that the immense diversity of India was its strength. 

                The program- Azaadi ki Kahani –Jo Kabhi na ho Purani that was held inside the Aravali Hall comprising the presentations by the five houses of the school-Pratap, Latif, Subroto , Katre and Arjan presented tales from the freedom saga. Each house chose a region for dramatisation of the period where sacrifices were made and exemplary courage was displayed. Thus the stage came alive with the vignettes from the North, South , East and West. Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and other leaders from western India were depicted by Pratap House. Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, Pandit Nehru and other leaders from the North were part of the Latif House presentation. The South presented by Subroto played out  the enthralling story of Kittur Rani Chennamma ,Tipu Sultan and Subramania Bharti. Katre House was judged the best house for its depiction of the fiery freedom fighters from central India. The Arjan House chose to showcase the unsung heroes of the North East,- Rani Gaidinliu, Pasaltha Khuangchera and others  in a soul stirring performance.

                The Chief Guest Air Cmde L.N Sharma released the school magazine, The Aravalian on the theme, ‘The Travelling Trail’. He greeted the huge magazine team consisting of students and teachers. In a rousing speech Air Cmde Sharma said, “The Air Force School has come a long way and has reached the pinnacle of success.” He urged the students to follow the path of secularism. He said, “Region and religion our all personal. When it comes to the nation, we are all Indians. “He urged the youth to fight the evil of corruption, to uphold the dignity of women and respect the elderly.

                The programme ended with a beautiful rendition of the song “Hum Sabe Bhartiye Hain”.

                  Story Telling Competition

                  STORY TELLING COMPETITION

                  A story telling competition using props, was organized for Class V students  on 8 Aug 2015,in the Junior school hall. This was a group activity with 3 students in each group. There were twenty groups that participated in this event. Each group was handed over a surprise bag of 3 props, and were given 15 minutes time to build a story based on the props and present it to the audience .The stories presented were very creative and entertaining. The results of the competition are as follows.

                      UKG - Show and Tell Activity

                      The tiny tots of Kindergarten had a delightful day on the occasion of ‘Show and Tell’ activity organized for them, on 04 August 2015. The whole class participated in this activity. The children spoke about their favourite fruits and vegetables .The objective was to give these little Tafsians a reason to eat healthy as well as to develop their language skills. This positive social interaction helped them to communicate and express themselves through words and actions, with confidence.
