FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - JUNIOR SCHOOL

Awareness Campaign on ‘Healthy Nutrition & Balanced Diet’

As part of our ongoing campaign to get students to make fitness a way of life, and participate in the nationwide ‘Fit India Movement’, Junior Wing of The Air Force School, Subroto Park, Delhi Cantt organized several activities in the month of November 2019, on the theme ‘Healthy Nutrition and Balanced Diet’. Fitness helps children to handle day to day physical and emotional challenges better. For the all-round development of children it is essential that they indulge in sports on a daily basis.

The tiny tots of UKG and I enjoyed a presentation of a composition of jingles by the student council, Junior School, who emphasized on the importance of having healthy and timely meals. The students of classes I & II participated in oratory and art & craft activities about their favourite sport. Classes III – V made collages and posters on Balanced Meals, wrote slogans on good habits of hygiene and wrote English poetry on Healthy Diet and displayed their work in their classes.  They also participated in Yoga, Zumba and Taekwondo and other free hand exercises. Everyone had plenty of fun and made merry learning more about a healthy lifestyle proving that what the adults call as ‘working out’, kids call ‘playing’!

    DISASTER MANAGEMENT - MOCK EVACUATION DRILL

    MOCK EVACUATION DRILL 

    “Training proves to be the key ingredient to handling any disaster.” 

    The school organized a mock evacuation drill for classes VI-XIIth today i.e. 28th November’2019. The drill was a success as more than 1400 students including the complete school staff were able to evacuate all concerned classrooms, labs and Activity block within a short span of 4 minutes 25 seconds. 

    The drill was a combination of sincerity and coordination among students and staff, thereby making this as another successive drill conducted in the school.

      Special assembly on the occasion of Constitution Day of India

      A special assembly on the occasion of ‘Constitution day of India’ also known as the ‘Samvidhan Diwas’ was conducted on 26th November 2019 in the school.

      This day marks the anniversary of adoption of the Constitution of India which came into force on January 26th 1950 which is celebrated as the Republic Day.

      A speech was presented by S. Nivetha of class XI on the importance of our Indian constitution- the supreme law of our country. Interesting facts about the Indian Constitution were discussed.

      Light was thrown on the important personalities who were part of the Constituent assembly - Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr BR Ambedkar, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu to name a few, who drafted the Constitution. The final draft was prepared in 2 years 11 months and 18 days and it represented a broad consensus of it’s time.

      Pranay and Pranav of Class VIII read out the Preamble and it’s guiding values in both the languages – English and Hindi with a lot of zeal. The meaning of the terms – Sovereign, Secular, Socialist, Democratic  were discussed with the students.

      The assembly was concluded with the school choir presenting the song – ‘Saare Jahaan se acha, Hindustan humara’.

      Vice Principal addressed  the assembly  and encouraged the students to be responsible citizens of the country by discharging their everyday duties effectively and efficiently.

        FIT INDIA MOVEMENT - SENIOR SCHOOL

        “FIT INDIA MOVEMENT”

        The Air Force School celebrated the “FIT INDIA SCHOOL” week from 18-11-19 to 23-11-19 in tandem with CBSE’s initiative.

        Various engaging activities were organized. With stroke full of confidence and creativity, the students made beautiful posters on the theme “Fit Body-Fit Mind-Fit Environment”.

        When our students played with words, thought-provoking slogans came out flying for the slogan writing Activity.

        The thinking pens produced articles & essays on how to be fit as a fiddle by practicing yoga and other free hand activities.

        The morning assembly saw students doing aerobics & learning Martial arts.

        The Fit India Movement aims to encourage all to take up physical activity and sports in their everyday lives. Not leaving any stone unturned, we at TAFS take pledge to make ourselves fit and strive for the noble goal of good health.

          A VISIT TO AIIMS
          The IAN at AIIMS organized the 37th annual meet on 18th November and invited Biology students from several school of Delhi including TAFS. The experience was enriching and inspiring. Each school presented a slideshow on different topics related to neurosciences and Psychology ranging from discussion on anxiety and the importance of artificial intelligence. Team TAFS comprising Metanksha, Harleen, Snehil gave an excellent presentation on “cognitive effects of exercise”. The experienced panelist introduced various new ideas answered every query with detailed explanation so as to satisfy the curiosity of every student. Overall the experienced was educational as well as fun- filled.

            A VISIT TO NSC
            Students of class XII B witnessed an exhibit on “SUPERBUGS : The End Of Antibiotics?” on 13 November 2019 at national science centre. The day started with lecture by Dr S.K.Srivastava Associate Prof Department of Microbiology, Shradhanand college ,Delhi university.  He elaborated on the present status of microbial diseases like epidemics Tuberculosis AMR superbugs. He also talked about alternate method to control AMR and emerging technology.
            In the second half of the exhibit student observed microbes in pond water and viewed germs on hand through germ glow techniques. They also visited the superbug gallery where films on superbugs was displayed. Overall the experienced was educational and fun- filled.

              A VISIT TO NIPGER

              Class XII B students participated in the OPEN DAY organized by NIPGER on 23 October 2019. It was wonderful learning experience for the students as it provided valuable information about various transgenic crop developed at the centre to improve the quality of agricultural practices like Genomics and molecular markers in crop plant.

              Students observed the various techniques for isolation of desired gene from genome, selection of recombinant from non recombinants, Tissue culture, Confocal microscopy and gel electrophoresis.

              The students enjoyed the workshop and learnt the various processes used in molecular biology.

                The Air Force School celebrated its 64th Annual Day on 07 November 2019. It was a memorable moment as the school paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi commemorating his 150th birth anniversary, marking the stupendous celebration. 

                Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria PVSM AVSM VM ADC Chief of the Air Staff, expressed his appreciation of the flawless event titled, ‘Praharsh- the River of Joy’. He remarked that the time spent and values imbibed at school will help students in character building and personality development. 

                Mrs Asha Bhaduaria, President AFWWA (Central), gave away the prizes to the students for academic and co-curricular achievements.

                The evening started after the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.

                The melodious tunes played by the school band ‘Avartan’ enthralled the guests.

                The art and sculpture exhibition, titled ‘Pragdhara-the Classical Legacy’, showcased the theme of ‘Praharsh- the River of Joy’. The exhibits crafted from waste material, depicted the prehistoric times, the art of the medieval era and the contemporary art scenes.

                Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. This was translated into reality by the instrumentalists of TAFS through their mellifluous composition titled ‘Samanvay-the Resonating Euphoria’.

                The welcome dance was titled ‘Abhinandanam’ was a joyful greeting of the guests by the junior school students. The choral cadences titled ‘Anuranjanam - Anthem of Ecstasy’, gave the message that music can fill one with joy and facilitate emotional conciliation. 

                The most spectacular event of the evening was the dance drama celebrating a soul stirring message, the beauty of contentment, a panoramic view of the myriad of ways in which we can learn to be happy, if we want to be happy, learn to tie it to a goal, not to people or objects. For happiness, one size does not fit all.

                In her address, the Principal, Mrs. Amita Gupta, said that at TAFS, the effort is concentrated to not just achieve academic excellence but instill a strong value system, the courage to accept responsibility, the integrity to admit mistakes and the empathy to contribute towards the betterment of the society.

                The evening ended with Vote of Thanks presented by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Lomina Rajiv, followed by the National Anthem.

                  MATHEMATICS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM - CLASS XII

                  Enrichment program for the Mathematics students of class XII

                  An enrichment program for the Mathematics students of class XII was conducted on 11.11.19. The session was conducted by Mr. Kunal Kumar who has been associated with the subject for more than two decades. He is also associated with JINA Education, an institute for CBSE and Competitive exams.

                  The session conducted by Mr. Kunal proved to be  a valuable discussion before the Mock Pre Board exam. He spoke on strategies that should be followed by students while preparing for the examinations and provided some guidelines for attempting the questions in an effective manner. Some important topics were discussed in the session to clarify the methodology to be followed by students. Throughout the session, he maintained that the student should first acquire clear conceptual understanding and then  they  should move on to the rigorous practice of questions.

                  The program was a comprehensive and strategically important help to the students for tackling the forth coming board exam .
