UKG LEMONADE PARTY- 12 JULY 2018

A lemonade party was organised for the kindergartners of our school on 12 July 2018, to celebrate a cool summer day at school! They not only enjoyed the sweet and sour flavour of the drink, with their classmates but also enjoyed watching a demonstration of how to prepare a lemonade drink. They were fascinated by the process, squeezing of fresh lemons into water, adding sugar and salt and stirring the mixture to dissolve it. They enjoyed discussing the benefits of this drink and the other homemade drinks we consume to quench our thirst during summers. Our tiny tots promised to consume only healthy drinks and to stay away from aerated soft drinks!

Children also did an art and craft activity and made paper cut out of lemons. Playing with the soft toys of various fruits and vegetables made the lemonade party a lot more fun. They made merry by dancing to songs on types of fruits. It was really a cool way to spend a summer day at school, even though the temperatures were soaring!

                        Teachers' Workshop (Jr Wing)

                        TEACHERS’ WORKSHOP – 07 JULY 2018

A teachers’ training workshop was conducted by Mr. Ashwani kumar, Chairman, Indus Quality Foundation for all staff members of Junior Wing, on 07 July 2018. The aim of this workshop was to instill self empowerment within teachers. Through two informative & impactful sessions teachers were equipped with skills and empowered to give their best during their interaction with students. The first session revolved around the process of, ‘Becoming an enlightened Teacher’ by understanding teachers’ traits & classifying them as ‘tamsik’, ‘rajsik’& ‘Satvik’. The process of teaching & spreading knowledge was explained as a rewarding experience in itself. The relevance of ‘Human Touch’, as an important part of a teacher’s life, was discussed in detail. An enlightened teacher was explained as one who hears, understands, motivates, acknowledges, nurtures, teaches, organizes and uniquely creates a healthy atmosphere.

Further in the latter session titled ‘Education & Society’ a quiz was conducted based on the text, Swami Vivekananda- His Call of Nation. The workshop was interactive and comprised of presentation, quiz and discussion. Love, empathy, acceptance and constant urge of learning in a teacher were discussed as traits of a ‘satvik’ teacher, towards which we all should strive. Also it was saliently discussed that benevolence alone will not make a teacher, nor will learning alone do it, the gift of teaching is a peculiar talent, and implies a need and a craving in the teacher herself.

                                Workshop - Junior Wing

                                WORKSHOP REPORT

A storytelling workshop was conducted for teachers of Junior Wing by Expressive Art based therapists from Department of Mental Health & Behavioural Sciences from Fortis National Mental Health Programme.  Ms. Tanushree Sangma & Ms. Rashmi Singh conducted the session for teachers. The ancient culture of storytelling is revived in this initiative by mobilizing school teachers through an outreach programme. Through five interactive stories various ways of inculcating stories as a medium of learning were discussed. Emphasis was not laid on teaching any particular skill through storytelling instead using stories as a medium of living and learning everyday. As it is apparent that stories lead to better learning and stays in children’s mind for long thus storytelling as a technique was encouraged.

Through an interactive workshop teachers were themselves given hypothetical situations to utilise problem solving skills. Emphasis was also given on understanding the selection of tales for students. Language, content, cognitive load, instructional objectives, interactive and extension opportunities being some of them. The resource persons effectively promoted storytelling to educate, illustrate, enlighten as well as inspire.
