DAY 2 : GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK

GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK

(Sept 28-0ct 2,2020)

To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, The Air Force School organises a set of activities spread along the week, based on the principles and ideals of our revered leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Day 2- Talk about three monkeys (in the present-day context)

"Three wise monkeys", representing the principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"

The second day of the week started with an activity -Talk about the three monkeys (in the present-day context), for the students of class VII. These monkeys have come to resemble our actions or observation, listening, and speaking.

It is important for the youth of today to understand that Our emotions matter. They work with our thought processes to form actions and in return we have outcomes. To change the outcome, we need to change the emotion and the thought process simultaneously. The activity thus designed, keep this motive intact. The children participated in this activity with great zeal and enthusiasm.

The goal of education is not acquiring knowledge alone, but developing the dispositions to seek and use knowledge in effective and ethical ways. ... Knowledge becomes enacted knowledge.

    DAY 1: GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK

    GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK

    (Sept 28-0ct 2,2020)

To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, The Air Force School organises a set of activities spread along the week, based on the principles and ideals of our revered leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Day 1- Making of a charkha

“They say the brightest of the diamonds are those which go through more pressure and heat.”

India has gone through a prolonged period of suffering and dependence and has outshone the world with its self-sufficiency and its prowess in every aspect. India’s struggle for Independence is written in the pages of history by the sweat, blood, and sacrifice of millions of Indians who took up the Swadeshi and the Non-Co-operation movement led by the Visionary leader Mahatma Gandhi.

The Spinning Wheel or Charkha became not only a symbol of the revolution, but it is a symbol synonymous with the power of self-reliance, perseverance, and determination. From then to now the Charkha has initiated an upheaval and marked the path of progress for the Indian Spinning Industry.

The week started with an activity -Making a Charkha (spinning wheel), for the students of class VI. It was a best out of waste activity. The children made use of sticks, newspaper, copper wire to make a 3D model of a charka, along with it a small write-up about its significance. It is important for the youth of today to understand their past. The activities thus designed, keep this motive intact. The children did an extensive research about its significance that -The charkha became a symbol of self-sufficiency and freedom, so much so that the first Indian flag designed had the Charkha etched in the middle which was later replaced by the Ashok Chakra. This marked the beginning of the Indian Spinning Industry which has evolved through the years to reach the economic zenith that it has now achieved. The children participated in this activity with great zeal and enthusiasm.

A vegetable printing activity was organised for UKG students on 24th September 2020. During the week they  were introduced to different kinds of vegetables, their colours, textures shape and the nutrition they provide us. The idea of using cut vegetables to do colour printing on paper was to help in development of fine motor skills and creativity.

They thoroughly enjoyed this activity of mixing watercolors and using lady's finger to make beautiful flower garden. This activity allowed students to observe the beautiful geometrical shape of a lady's finger print. They could also feel the texture of the vegetable while holding and using it for doing their activity. The tiny tots also got an opportunity to discuss about their favourite vegetables. Seeing the vibrant smiles after making their own colourful gardens was a indeed a pleasure.

From rectangular doors to conical caps to circular clocks, shapes are everywhere. Learning about shapes help children to identify and organise visual information. One of the interesting ways to teach children about shapes is organising a game of Shape Hunt.
Learning by playing helps to build a child’s worth by giving him or her a feeling of achievement on successfully completing the task. Games also give  children a sense of adventure and improve upon their problem-solving abilities.

Keeping these things in mind, an adventure game called ‘I spy shapes’ was organised for students of Class II on 18 September 2020. The children were asked to look around their homes and spy for objects which looked like rectangles, triangles and circles. The children made big cut outs of these shapes and then drew the spied objects in their cut outs. These cut-outs were then displayed in their rooms. The children shared the pictures of their creations with their class teachers.

“Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.”
                      ~ Charles R. Swindoll

Children like adults need to have some private space just to be themselves. Making a tent within the room using sheets, blankets, pillows  can turn the room into their fortress where they can spend some quality time with their parents. The child will feel that he has your complete  attention. Children can use this space to find comfort when upset, sad or angry.
A tent can become a creative corner where the kid's imagination can grow. They can read, colour, draw and also engage in some pretend play. Being a cosy alternative to the bed, children can relax in it and also take a nap.

The students of Class II were given such a task to make themselves a private nook on 3rd September. They had to personalize their tents using their favourite pillows and toys. As they clicked their pictures in their private spaces the joy on their faces was too much to be missed. They sent these pictures to their class teachers showing how thrilling and comfortable this activity was!

MY KACHHA HOUSE- ART AND CRAFT ACTIVITY- CLASS I (01 SEP 2020)

An activity to make a Kachcha House  was conducted for class I on 01 September 2020. Enthusiastic participation and innovative results marked the activity. Materials like broomsticks, paper rolls, dried grass, leaves, pieces of wood and jute twine etc were used to make the Kachcha house. This hands-on activity helped the children not only to develop their fine motor skills but also their environmental awareness as most of the children in the cities and towns have rarely seen a Kachcha house or a tribal hut in a village.

The activity also helped them to experiment with a variety of materials creatively.
