'MATH WEEK' CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL (23-27 JAN 2023)
“Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.”
Mathematics is a way of thinking and gives an insight into the power of human mind. To encourage young learners and to dispel math phobia ‘Math Week’ was celebrated at TAFS junior school from 23 January to 27 January'23.
The purpose of the Math week was to teach the students about basic mathematics in a simple and playful manner. The plethora of activities was planned by the teachers for the students during the week. Teachers specially designed these activities with an aim to enhance observation and analytical skills of the students.
During this week, the following activities were conducted:
The UKG students did “Hand mapping” activity. They measured different objects like table, chair, bottle, bag and white board etc using their tiny hand span.The aim of this activity was to enhance observation and estimation skills.
Class 1 students participated and enjoyed in “Counting by 10’s” activity and learnt about skip counting with the help of colourful paper caterpillar.
Class2 students enjoyed participating in “Penguin Pals” activity by telling the Addition/subtraction facts about specific two-digit numbers, which challenged their calculation and creative thinking skills.
Class 3 students learnt about the importance of money and various ways to be more selective with their purchases by doing “Bill making” activity.The students engrossed themselves in preparing bills using menu cardswhich challenged their calculation skills.
“Let’s Reflect”activity by students of Class 4 was done in pairs.One student made the design and the partner had to create mirror image(along the line of symmetry)of the design. This activity was a wonderful way to enhance their observation and creative skills.
The students of class 5 did “Area Tower” Activity. They cut square pieces of paper and pasted them in form of a tower using their creative skills. This interesting Hands-on activity was an excellent way to apply the knowledge of area into real life situation.
These week long activities enhanced the thinking and math problem solving skills of the young ones.The Math week was a success in intriguing the students about the exciting world of Mathematics
