Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions and desires. It’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality.

In these unusual times, when all of us are at home, it can be an excellent opportunity to develop our skills. So here is an opportunity for you.

Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, a contemporary art museum is going to conduct an online art (drawing/painting) competition on the theme ‘MASK’. The focus of the artwork will be on the mask to protect ourselves from the novel coronavirus. The artist can display their creativity using the mask as the main object in their artwork.

Children can use an A4 sheet or A4 canvas to draw their artwork keeping in mind the theme ‘MASK’.

This art competition is absolutely FREE to participate in.

Last date of submission of entries:  May 31, 2020

PAPER COIL SCULPTURE COMPETITION

The Sculpture Department conducted a Paper Coil Sculpture Competition on 19th May2020, Tuesday for classes VII and VIII. Paper coiling is an activity which involves the sculpting of an entity in a round form. Medium may vary in context of paper, wire, or types of thread. Base needs to be strong and sturdy. Our talented students carved a niche and  had done a great work as follows :

HUNT FOR RED!- A UKG ACTIVITY (19 MAY 2020)

Identifying and recognising colours are an important milestone in the growth and development of preschoolers. The best way to help children identify colours is through playful everyday experiences.

Children love to explore their surroundings and have a natural curiosity to learn. Keeping this in mind a fun filled kinesthetic activity, 'HUNT FOR RED', was organised for our youngest TAFSians, on 19 May 2020. 

The task required the children to look for and collect 8-10 different red coloured items available at home. Many of these enthusiastic learners dressed in red and collected all sorts of things varying from toys, vegetables, pillows, kitchen items, play dough, stationary items, gadgets, the list being long and impressive. They observed the size and shape of the objects, felt the texture and displayed them all on a table for their teachers.

Colours indeed make the day brighter. The shades of red made our tiny tots feel bright , lively and cheerful. It was indeed a wonderful experience, for their teachers, seeing their gleaming faces while enjoying this hands on activity at home.

KNOW MY FAMILY- CLASS III EVS CRAFT  ACTIVITY (19 MAY 2020)

Families are an integral part of one’s life. It doesn’t matter if you have a small family or big family. A family serves as the first school to the child where one learns about various things like dealing with human feelings, developing family bonding, sharing, caring, etc.

As all of us stayed in our homes due to the lockdown, sharing daily chores with family members and knowing each other in a better way was really a blessing in disguise. Keeping this in mind, a craft activity was organised for the students of class III to know the likes of each and every member of their beloved family. The activity also required them to draw the faces and the hairstyle representing each family member and recording some of their interests and things that they love to do. 

All the entries were great work of art. It was heartening to see such an overwhelming response.

SHAPES IN A PLATE- CLASS I MATH ACTIVITY (18 MAY 2020)

To help the students learn the concept of shapes in a fun way a Math Activity, 'Shapes in a Plate' was organised for class I, on 18 May 2020. The little ones enjoyed collecting and displaying the food items in different shapes in a round plate. The display included triangle sandwiches,  square paranthas, round biscuits and snacks of different shapes..

After their shapes cuisine was ready they proudly shared their pictures showcasing their understanding of the concept with their teachers. The smiles on their faces showed how much they enjoyed doing the activity. They were also encouraged to enjoy this healthy treat with their family.

THE TONGUE TWISTER CHALLENGE FOR CLASS IV

 (15^th MAY 2020)

There is an old saying, ‘Many a slip between the cup and the lip’ meaning that between the saying and doing there can be many changes. We decided to take this proverb on its head and so gave our class IV students a fascinating challenge, on 15 May 2020,  to test it. Tongue twisters are a great way to practice and improve pronunciation and fluency in any language.

Keeping in mind the parameters kept for judgement like clarity of voice, speed, fluency and pronunciation the following students were decided on as the winners from each section of Class IV -

ENGLISH SPEECH ACTIVITY- CLASS I (15 MAY 2020)

An English Speech Activity was organised for class I, on 15 May 2020. The objective was not only to help children develop confidence and language skills but also have fun with the family in the process of preparing the speech and shooting a video of it at home. They had to hold their favourite milk cup, pillow, container, soft toy or anything of daily use in their hand and speak a few sentences on it.  

The children were confident in communicating their thoughts on what they loved to play with and use every day.  It was a great pleasure for the teachers to watch their students perform.

We have often heard all the magicians say ‘Magic is just an illusion’. It is simply a spectacle that plays tricks on our minds. An art competition on optical illusion was organised for class V on 14 May 2020.The art teacher introduced the students to the technique of optical art.The students were then instructed to create their own opt art work and send them to their teachers. All the entries were great art work and some of them were truly masterpieces by themselves.

FILE FOLDER MAKING COMPETITION- CLASS IV (12^th MAY 2020)

Folders are an effective tool for organizing one’s paper work. We need to be organized with our paper work in order to get our work done in a timely manner. You can spend hours of precious time searching for important papers that you have filed away somewhere because you forgot where you put it.

“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned”- Benjamin Franklin.

This is where folders come in handy. Keeping this in mind we organised a ‘File Folder Making Competition' for the students of Class IV. The idea was for them to use this folder to neatly file the worksheets and other activity sheets which they had done during the past one month.

As always, the entries were superlative and the student’s creativity and ingenuity shown through. Using the material which was readily available at home, they came up with aesthetically appealing and surprising sturdy folders. After a thorough perusal of the submitted entries the following students were decided on as the winners from each section of Class IV -

Microorganisms- Friend and foe 

The Science Department conducted an online Activity for students of class VIII on May 15th 2020, Friday. Students played the role of corona virus and made a small video of themselves telling the origin, means of spread and ways to control the virus. They also wrote key information about the virus that has caused such a havoc. 

They participated with full zeal and energy In the same and put up great videos.

Students got to research more about the virus for this activity and they learnt a lot from each other as well. Overall it was a great learning experience for everyone and the students’ enthusiasm made this activity a success.

‘WHAT’S YOUR ANGLE?’ A MATH ACTIVITY FOR CLASS V (11 MAY 2020)

The world around us is changing fast. Life as we had known has grinded to a halt. Everyone seems to have more time for reflection and observation. This has added another dimension to our learning. 

Our visual landscape is full of lines, shapes and angles. Children had learned about different types of angles in their Math lesson. The angle making activity nudged them to observe their surroundings carefully and try to  identify the angles in various objects. They had to depict their observations through drawings, colour them and identify and mark the angles in them. Students sent in their activities enthusiastically to their Class Teachers. It was heartening to see such an overwhelming response.

THE BUDDING GARDENER CONTEST - CLASS III (05 -15 MAY 2020) 

Planting seeds in pots can be a great way to start a houseplant and to add to the visual attraction of your home. To grow your own plants from seeds or vegetable cuttings is a satisfying experience and has great learning value. Keeping this in mind, a competition, 'The Budding Gardener', was organised for the students of class III on 05 May 2020. The children had to grow a plant or sow seeds and watch it grow for 10 days. The planter to be used were either recycled materials like coconut shells, broken terracota cups, empty containers, bottles etc that was to be decorated using their imagination and creativity.

The parameters of judgement were the creativity in choosing a container / pot and the health of the saplings they had grown by giving their love and taking good care of the saplings. The activity gathered an overwhelming response and the children sent the pictures of their saplings, to their respective class teachers.

'ANOKHE AKSHAR' DRAWING ACTIVITY WITH HINDI LETTERS - CLASS UKG (13 MAY 2020)

 Children love to draw and derive immense pleasure from making sketches and filling colours in their own creations. Drawing helps them in developing their motor skills. Keeping this in mind, an activity called ‘Anokhe Akshar’ was organised for the children of UKG. In this activity, children were introduced to drawing pictures using various lettersof Hindi alphabet. The pictures were simple yet interesting that the children could easily relate to. The best part of this activity was that every letter led to the formation of a picture and that is how they became ‘Anokhe Akshar’. 

 To assist the children, a link of the complete video recorded by the teacher was sent in the worksheet. It contained a step by step guide on how the pictures were to be drawn from Hindi letters.

 Children clicked the pictures of their drawings which were shared with the respective class teachers. The drawings made by children were very colourful and vibrant. Children used Hindi letters and different patterns to draw nearly perfect pictures as demonstrated in the video. The activity proved to be a perfect combination of learning and developing motor skills of children.

CLASS- VII

The department of English organized an online activity- 'Click and Tell' for the students of class VII on 13 May 2020. The participants had to click a picture of an action happening or any object around them, and record an audio describing the picture. 

The activity was aimed at enabling the children to be able to observe their surroundings closely and express themselves creatively. In the present scenario of lock down, when we can't go out, it's tough for these young buds to find positivity around. This activity made them look at common things and everyday actions with a different and interesting perspective.

The students thoroughly enjoyed clicking their pets, favourite dishes and even the flora around, and describing their pictures with great intonation in their voices. More such opportunities would definitely help the students strengthen their observation and speaking skills.

COLLAGE ART- PAPER TEARING AND PASTING ACTIVITY BY CLASS II (12 MAY 2020)

Collage Art- a paper tearing and pasting online activity, was organised for the students of class II, on 12th May 2020. The topic was a Natural Scenery. They had to draw a scenery and then paste tiny pieces of colored paper by free hand tearing. 

This activity not only helps children to develop the fine motor skills but also helps in showcasing  their imagination and creativity on paper. It teaches them patience and focus. The children also get to decide on alternatives (like colour and shapes) and choose better options. 

It also teaches them self discipline and self motivation as they sit and finish their work.

The beautiful designs made by the students were sent to their class teachers. The creativity and imagination were impressive as the young ones stood holding their creations proudly, for their teachers to see.

Knowing objects around us

The Science Department conducted an intra-class online Activity of ‘knowing objects around us’ for students of class VI on May 13^th 2020, Wednesday, wherein students were asked to differentiate various objects around them on the basis of following properties:

1.      Hardness

2.      Solubility

3.      Ability to float

They enthusiastically participated in the same and put forth their enthralling performances.

The objective of this activity was to make students understand the importance of sorting materials into groups. All the young fellows performed to their level best and made the activity a great success.

TOPIC: AN ORATOR IN THE MAKING

The Departmental Activity for English, for class VI, titled, ‘An Orator in the Making’ took place on May 11, 2020 during the English period. The students were asked to prepare a speech on ‘My Experience of the Lockdown’ and record an audio of it of 1 minute. The students were supposed to keep in mind that their speech should fulfill the parameters of Voice Modulation, Diction, Content and Pronunciation. All the students participated wholeheartedly. The effort of the students is highly appreciable as their enthusiasm and zest made it a success!

Be the Writer of your life

”If I wanted adventure, I would have to write an adventure story, and if I wanted meaning, I was going to write a meaningful story. That shift was incredibly empowering, but also incredibly concerning, because now I was responsible for the story.”

Each one of us  have our own unique story and set of perspectives. Yet we tend to fear being ourselves, so we try to copy the decisions, attitudes, or actions of others.Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.

To further their love for language an intra-class online  activity of choosing a literary character that defines them or fascinates them,  was conducted for the students of class VIII by the English Department on May 12,2020. . The activity was conducted during the regular English period through the virtual medium..

The objective of this activity- Be the Writer of your life, is the  importance of expressing individuality.The students participated in large numbers with great zeal and enthusiasm.

SOCIAL  SCIENCE  DEPARTMENT ACTIVITY  REPORT

CLASS  VII

The social science Department conducted an Activity  - SLOGAN MAKING  for class VII  on various aspects of Equality  on 11th May 2020. (Monday).

The theme was  regarding the different dimensions of Equality - political, social and economic . In this activity, all the sections of class VII participated and posted their slogans in their respective class whatsapp group. 

The Activity was successful in achieving its objective as the students were able to represent the concept they learnt about equality, through their creative expressions.

It was observed that the students participated in the given Activity with great zeal and rigour. To encourage the participation of students in further activities , they were awarded with the I , II , III  positions respectively.

MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITY

CLASS VIII

ANGLE SUM PROPERTY OF QUADRILATERAL

A Departmental Activity was conducted by the Mathematics Department on 11th May ,2020, Monday through the digital platform - WhatsApp class groups. The students were informed about the activity . The Objective/Aim of the activity was VERIFICATION OF ANGLE SUM PROPERTY OF QUADRILATERAL.

A Quadrilateral is a four sided polygon having four sides, four vertices and four angles. And the sum of all 4 angles of a Quadrilateral is 360oStudents of class VIII enthusiastically participated in the activity . They showed great interest and creativity in doing the activity. They understood this property of Quadrilaterals by hands on activity by means of cutting and pasting. The activity developed critical thinking, opened doors for knowledge flow and better understanding of teachings.

The students posted their activity work on their class WhatsApp groups and are posted below. Although with restricted resources available at home during lockdown, students still participated enthusiastically in this activity.

ABC COLOURING FUN- UKG (08 MAY 2020) 

Coloring activities are not only fun for young children but they also provide them with an opportunity to practice fine motor skills, coordination for early writing skills and correct finger grip. Drawing pictures and colouring them may seem like simple tasks but there are so many learning benefits for children to engage in the art of coloring in. It also develops creativity, colour awareness and recognition and boundaries, structure and spacial awareness. 

Keeping this in mind we organised a colouring activity, 'ABC Colouring Fun', for our kindergartners, on 08 May 2020. They were required to draw different pictures for the letters A, B and C.They completed the activity with great enthusiasm.Their rich vocabulary and creativity were reflected in their work. The avocados, cherries, caterpillar, aquarium, bumble bee etc made an appearance in their creative work. It was great fun to watch the tiny tots accomplishing their task wholeheartedly.

MOTHER'S DAY ORIGAMI FLOWER ACTIVITY- CLASS I (10 MAY 2020) 

Mother's Day celebrates motherhood and is a day to make an extra  special effort to recognise and appreciate mother's role in our lives. Often this day is extended to generations of mothers- grandmothers, great grandmothers as well as to mother figures.

To mark the occasion an origami flower making activity was organised for class I, so that the children could make a flower and offer it to their moms. Someone had rightly said once- "God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers." Children showed their love for their mother by getting up in the morning on their own, brushing their teeth, having a bath and wearing their dresses all by themselves. They offered their origami tulip to their mother with a big hug and warm wishes . 

To make this day even more special they helped their mom in doing chores like laying the table for meals, filling up empty water bottles, watering the plants, folding clothes etc. Finally they got themselves clicked with their mothers and sent to their class teachers.

MOTHER'S DAY CARD MAKING ACTIVITY- CLASS UKG (10 MAY 2020) 

The occasion of Mother’s Day is always celebrated with immense enthusiasm at The Air Force School every year. A mother’s role in a child’s life is the most significant and it's important for the children to convey love and respect to their mothers in small and cute ways. This year on the occasion of Mother’s Day we organised a finger paint card making activity for class UKG so that children could lovingly offer the colourful card they made, to their mother. 

They had to work with either the available water colours or create colours for themselves at home from natural ingredients. They made a colourful palm print on an A4 size thick sheet of paper and wrote ‘I love you mom’ on the sheet. This activity helped in creating a mother and child bonding time and some fun by engaging them in this activity together. They sent photographs of this activity to their respective teachers. This not only enhanced their creative skills but also helped to show their love and gratitude to their mothers. They also learned the important lesson of making the best of the limited resources available to them.  

 ‘CHHOTE USTAAD’- A MUSIC COMPETITION FOR CLASS V (06 MAY 2020)

A music competition, titled ’Chhote Ustaad’ was organised for the students of Class V on 06 May 2020. It was an attempt to promote musical talent in vocal as well as instrumental music. A song is described as the music of the soul and our little Tafsians surprised us with their nuanced knowledge of the various raags, rhythm and chords in music. Their zestful entries made it  difficult to select the winners. All their entries are praiseworthy.

CLASS III MS PAINT COMPETITION-07 MAY 2020

The use of computers has become a necessary tool in this digital era. To test the Computer proficiency and skills a painting competition using MS Paint was organised on 7th May, 2020 for the students of class III. They were required to create a painting on one of the topics-  MY FAMILY or MY FAVOURITE CARTOON. 

The drawings sent by the participants were evaluated on the basis of the content, usage of M S Paint tools, creativity and artistic skills. It was a delight to see the entries sent by the students. The results of the competition are as follows:

CLASS IV HINDI CALLIGRAPHY COMPETITION  (6^th MAY 2020)

Handwriting is an essential skill for everyone. It activates the brain and even contributes to reading fluency because it boosts the visual perception of letters. Calligraphy is a visual art related to handwriting. The importance of good handwriting cannot be over emphasized. Keeping this in mind, the TAFS junior wing organised a Hindi Calligraphy competition for the students of class IV on 6^th of May, 2020. A passage was given to them titled ‘Pyasi Myna’.t

It was with amazement that the teachers judged the entries, most of which were examples on skill, penmanship and patience. Good handwriting is more practice than just a gift. Our students’ participation was also commendable and the display was encouraging to say the least.

HINDI POEM RECITATION COMPETITION- CLASS II (06 MAY 2020)

" Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words" ~ Edgar Allan Poe.

Poetry connects the human mind with the surroundings in a rhythmic manner. It illuminates the mind and sweetens the heart. Poetry cannot be fiction because it comes after observation. 

Hindi poetry has a long and rich heritage. To encourage this love of poetry amongst the young generation and help develop language skills and confidence, a Hindi poem recitation competition was organised for Class II on 06 May 2020.

The students were given a short poem on a butterfly to learn and recite in front of a camera. The recording of their verses was sent to their classteachers on whatsapp. The response was overwhelming and it was heartening to see the students recite the given poem with proper voice modulation and actions. It was interesting to note many of the students creating a special background using props for their performance. The lockdown has not lowered the enthusiasm among the young ones.

HINDI SPEECH ACTIVITY- CLASS I (06 MAY 2020)

A Hindi Speech Activity was organised for class I on 06 May 2020, on the topic- My favourite vegetable. Children were instructed to hold their favourite vegetable in their hands, speak a few sentences on it and the parents were to make a video of the performance.

The objective was not only to develop language skills and confidence but also to inculcate healthy eating habits. The activity also made for an interesting diversion from their routine. They enjoyed performing in front of a camera and making a video with the help of their parents.  

The children spoke about the importance of having vegetables, the vitamins they contain, how they help us to remain healthy and fit and how they taste delicious in different dishes. Potatoes, lady fingers, carrots, tomatoes and brinjals were some of the more popular vegetables. The teachers too had fun watching their students perform!

JHAROKHA ARTISANS- AN ART COMPETITION FOR CLASS IV( 04 MAY 2020)

Jharokha is a type of overhanging enclosed balcony used in the Indo - Islamic architecture. It adds to the beauty of the building and is used for ventilation and as a peeping hole to look through. Architecture, as any art form, makes extensive use of symmetry. Across all cultures and in all time periods architectural compositions are symmetrically arranged. Symmetry is the reflection of shared forms, shapes, or angles across a central line or point called the axis. Keeping the above points in mind a competition, 'Jharokha Artisans', designing a jharokha, was conducted for the students of Class IV on 4^th of May 2020.

The students created a jharokha drawing on an A 4 size paper, displaying great creativity in terms of colour combination and patterns used. It was a pleasure to look through the various submissions yet challenging to decide the winners. The effort put in by participants was immense and commendable. 

We have a word of appreciation for everal entries we had received which had excellent cutwork like Osheen’s  from IV B, Revant Singh and Ishaan Singh’s  from IV C and Inaya Khan’s from IV E. Some were painstakingly made models like Aarnav Singh’s from IV A but while judging the entries we have kept in mind the parameters mentioned for the competition which was essentially a drawing work. DRAWING COMPETITION CLASS II (05 MAY 2020)

Due to the prevailing countrywide lockdown we are spending more time with our families, doing things together and appreciating the small pleasures of life. We have become more aware of our minimalistic surroundings and are appreciating nature as it unfolds in front of us. The birds chirping, the new leaves emerging and the flowers blooming.

In a way to capture these moments and enhance the creativity a Drawing Competition was held for the students of Class II, on 05 May 2020. The topics to choose from were :

1. My favourite corner in my house.

2. The scene from my balcony.

3. My front lawn.

The students were encouraged to creatively perceive and recreate their surroundings. The originality of the work, the presentation of the topic, the detailing in the picture and the method of colouring done by the students was very impressive.

The children proudly took snapshots of themselves holding their masterpiece for their class teachers.

Bake a cake activity was conducted for students of class IX.

Recipes of vegan chocolate cake as well as marble cake were shared with them.

Some ideas for icing and garnishing were also given.

The activity gathered an overwhelming response and all kids posted the pictures of cakes baked by them.

The first position was bagged by Kavya and Vansh of class IX A.

The second position was secured by Pranay, Nishtha and Saniya of the same class.

The third position was shared by Divyank of IX A, Niharika Ojha of IX B, Mayank kanyal of IX C, Keshav 9D, seepra kumari IX E and Christene. IX E.

Children enjoyed the baking thoroughly and it provided them with feeling of self reliance and achievement.

MUSIC COMPETITION FOR CLASS VIII

On the occasion of the Support Staff Day , a music competition was held for class VIII on the May 1,  2020 through the digital platform - WhatsApp class groups. The students were informed about the activity through an e card through their whatsapp group. All the teachers teaching class VIII were also informed about the activity. Students posted their Audio recording to the Vocal Music WhatsApp number between 3pm -6pm on 1 May 2020 .The best entries are selected by  the Vocal Music teacher Dr Rohit Kumar Sharma and are posted below.

The Song for the Competition to Celebrate Staff Support Day. The Karoke for the song was sent along with audio recording of the song.

Although with restricted resources available at home during lockdown, students  participated enthusiastically in this activity. They  wholeheartedly sent their audio recording. This activity helped them to learn something new and express themselves through the Karoke version.

Class V English Calligraphy Competition

Writing is not just a way of presenting thoughts and ideas; it can also become an important way to express the artist in you. TAFS Junior Wing organised an English Calligraphy Competition for Class V students. The teachers were flooded with  handwriting artwork as the students submitted their entries with a lot of enthusiasm. The style , strokes and flair of their handiwork are worthy of appreciation by one and all.

Following are the names of the winners from each section.

ART & WRITING ACTIVITY- CLASS I (01 MAY 2020) 

On 01 May 2020, an English writing and Art activity was organised for students of class I. Children were required to draw a colourful picture on the topic, ' What I love to do at home' and write one sentence on it in English.

Although with restricted resources available at home and children being cooped up indoors for so long they still enthusiastically participated in this activity since the topic was close to their heart.

They enjoyed expressing themselves through drawing and colouring and getting their pictures clicked by their parents and sending to their class teachers. It made them feel special.

Some of the things they love to do at home are,  " ....playing with a ball, reading books, playing indoor games like ludo, monopoly, chess and carrom, spending time with family, eating food together, eating my favourite fruit mango, watering plants, dancing etc." This activity made them think positively and helped them to express themselves through art and writing.

LABOUR DAY CELEBRATION- JUNIOR SCHOOL (01 MAY 2020)

TAFS Junior Wing celebrated first day of May as Labour’s Day to acknowledge the efforts of helpers and labourers all around us. The objective of this celebration was to convey love and respect to our helpers especially during this time of pandemic ,when we have realised the importance of their role as essential service providers. 

In India, this day is celebrated as 'Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas'. Class IV students wrote thank you letters to the helpers in their apartment/ home and neighbourhood and also to the didis and bhaiyas at school, who had always helped them, to express their gratitude. The pictures of these letters were forwarded to the helpers to mark respect for the work they are doing and express love and care the children feel for them.

Class V students sent thank you wishes to helpers they know, on telephone, and silent prayers and gratitude to all workers in our country and  around the world for helping us in facing the challenges posed by this pandemic. 

The activity helped children remember and appreciate the efforts put in by these crusaders who are going out to do their job when everyone is safe at home during this lockdown country wide.

MS PAINT COMPETITION FOR CLASS IV

 (30^th APRIL 2020)

As we are moving at a fast pace towards a completely digital era, the use of computers in all fields cannot be over emphasized, in keeping with this trend and in compliance with our prescribed syllabus, a MS Paint Competition was conducted for the students of Class IV on 30^th of April 2020. The theme of this competition was ‘The Landform and its Fauna’.

The students created a painting on MS Paint, using the tools available and skills learnt in their previous class. It was an excellent opportunity for them to display their creativity and artistic skills along with their knowledge on the landform and its fauna.

The entries were judged on parameters like creativity, artistic skills, subject matter as well as maximum use of tools available on MS paint. It was a delight to see the submissions; the results of the competition are as follows -
