JANMASHTAMI ACTIVITIES- CLASSES UKG-2

JANMASHTAMI ACTIVITIES- CLASSES UKG-2 (24-27 AUG 2021)

India is known to be a cradle of civilizations, and the greatness of our culture is well depicted through the traditional way we celebrate our festivals. The joyous spirit of Janmashtami was celebrated with great zeal and pomp by the students of UKG-II from 24-27 August 2021, during their online classes.

The students of UKG were guided to make a stick puppet of a ‘Dahi Handi’. They coloured and decorated it with watermelon seeds, buttons, paper bits and other things that were easily available at home. The children enjoyed the activity thoroughly and also learnt about the lovable antics of Shri Krishna’s childhood.

Shri Krishna is incomplete without a flute or bansuri. The students of Class 1 made paper flutes out of newspapers and coloured papers. The students displayed their creativity and talent as they decorated them with colourful and glittery decorations. The fun part being the kids trying to blow their flutes and humming their favourite tunes. It was a simple yet fun filled activity for our little musicians.

While Shri Krishna wears many ornaments, his constant accessory is a peacock feather in his hair. The children of Class 2 crafted beautiful crowns using mirrors, stars, ribbons and peacock feathers. They proudly adorned their headgears and got themselves clicked.

These activities not only developed creative skills of our young ones but also helped develop fine motor skills and confidence. They also enjoyed sharing the childhood stories of Lord Krishna.

VIRTUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2021- JUNIOR SCHOOL

VIRTUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 2021- JUNIOR SCHOOL

The students of TAFS Junior Wing, celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day through week long activities culminating with a 15 minute Special Assembly on 13 August 2021. Talking to children about independence in a modern context, teachers motivated them to think about a better future in terms of adaptation to emerging situations and how progress can be pursued with good planning and reforms. Present day independence is all about using smart technology to achieve smart goals. Children were encouraged to think, share and act upon ideas they have about bringing positive changes in their immediate environment and what each of us can do for our country.

The little ones of UKG were guided by their teachers and helped by their parents in making Tricolour badges with ‘I Love India’ written in the centre which they proudly pinned to their dresses. They also learnt about the significance of each colour.

The smart children of Class I used ice-cream sticks and coloured paper strips to make ‘Saluting Soldiers’ craft activity for displaying as a decorative frame at home. They also understood the true meaning of courage, valour and sacrifice that are innate in a soldier and the respect due to them.

The children of Class II felt big enough to prove their love of reading and also to persuade everyone around them to pick up this wonderful habit by making Tricolour bookmarks with paper tearing and pasting which they would use themselves and also gift to others. These bookmarks had the symbol of peace, the dove cut-out, stuck on them.

Class III children went vocal with their expression of patriotism by participating in a Hindi Kavita Path Pratiyogita. They recited poems on Deshbhakti with complete feeling and sentiment.

Class IV children performed dances with enthusiasm and an essence of patriotic spirit resplendent in the colours of the national flag. This was judged as a competition though every individual effort was noteworthy.

Class V children revisited India’s struggle for freedom movement by getting into the skin of our national leaders who had major roles in helping India gain independence not only from the British but also from social and cultural shackles. The children participated in a Cosplay activity and went to great lengths to recreate the appearance and characteristics of famous freedom fighters, nation builders and social reformers. They delivered hair-raising slogans and monologues that brought about nostalgia and sparked inspiration.

The children promised to do their best to be good and responsible in their speech and action and serve the country as good human beings.

                          Workshop - CBSE Portal launch

                          Workshop Report

A virtual webinar & portal launch was conducted by CBSE on 4th August 2021 about Career Guidance and Counselling. The informative webinar was led by Mr. Manoj Sharma, Chairman CBSE, Mr. Terry Durnnian, Chief of Education UNICEF India and Ms. Rama Sharma, Head, Media & PR CBSE.

With the NEP 2020 pressing much upon creating an ecosystem of awareness & guided career choices for aspiring students, CBSE along with UNICEF India, launched a web portal (www.cbsecareerguidance.com)  for students to access dynamic information for various career pathways. In the past CBSE has taken several initiatives in supporting emotional wellbeing of students. This portal is an extension of the support for our students, from psycho-social well-being to occupational wellness. All CBSE enrolled students can register themselves on this extremely advantageous portal to make informed career choices. Once registered, the portal equips a student with all the essential information about various career options, courses to reach them and colleges (state wise) offering them.

The information helps a student’s way of how they can fund their education by providing data about various Scholarships & Olympiads. All the information is through verified CBSE sources. It also provides a timeline to students so that they don’t miss upon any last dates for application in any course, college or scholarship. The portal provides certified information about 560 career options, 3 lakh courses and 1250 scholarships along with the process of registering oneself.

The portal created by CBSE will provide not only vocational or career guidance to young students but will also make them consciously aware about the changing world.

PANICKER ENGLISH READING WEEKS: CLASSES I TO V

PANICKER ENGLISH READING WEEKS (26 JULY-6 AUGUST)

                            CLASSES I TO V

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers.  -Charles W. Eliot

Perhaps this was the thought when Shri P N Panicker started the library movement in Kerala in 1945 with nearly 47 rural libraries. His slogan of ‘Read and Grow’ ultimately lead to Kerala becoming a 100 percent literacy state. His death anniversary on 19th June is observed as the National Reading Day in India.

Taking inspiration from this literary movement junior wing TAFS celebrated ‘English Reading Weeks’ dedicated to inculcating a habit of reading among the young students.

Reading can be a fun activity for the children where their imagination opens doors to different worlds for them. Reading can lead to better vocabulary, increased general knowledge and also give them an empathetic view of diverse cultures. Reading leads to the brain keeping fit and reducing stress in a relaxed manner.

The students of class 1 got a chance to read in the class with a lot of emphasis on correct pronunciation and comprehension. The students encouraged each other by listening to their peers patiently. Their teachers guided them as they read clearly and loudly. The young readers who struggle to stay still and focus found it easier to do when they were reading aloud.

The students of class II had specially marked reading periods where they read aloud. The children were explained about the right use of intonation to give the right meaning to the dialogues. Important concepts of grammar like nouns, pronouns and punctuation were pointed out to them as they progressed with their reading.

The students of class III took this opportunity to read chapters from their Literature reader. The stories in the reader took the children into a world full of ingenuity, creativity, mythology, beliefs and aspirations. Reading aloud requires concentration to comprehend and pronounce the words on a page which leads to ignoring distractions.

The English teachers of Class IV took a reading practice of every student. They held discussions on the importance of reading and how books are a handy resource of information, life lessons and accomplishments. The students spoke about their favourite books and also discussed about the recommendations in Goodreads.

The students of Class V engaged in classroom reading from their literature reader. The stories in these books engaged the reader both mentally and emotionally. It also led to some valuable critical thinking in the students. Loud reading required both the reader and the listener to be more attentive, which in turn helped them identify proper sentence structure, grammar, word choice and more.

In addition to all this the students of class III, IV and V took a Reading Day Pledge where they promised to read as many books as they can, whenever they can. They also pledged to use the knowledge thus gained in the betterment of the society and the country.

MONSOON / RAINBOW DAY ACTIVITIES- CLASSES UKG-2 (02-05 AUG 2021)

“And when it rains on your parade, look up rather than down.

Without the rain, there would be no rainbow ‘Gilbert K. Chesterton

Rains are awaited by all, but rains for children mean a day full of fun, jumping in puddles, holding umbrellas, playing with paper boats and dancing in monsoon showers forgetting all their worries.

Monsoon revives our souls and fills the surroundings with the beauty of fresh greenery. To express gratitude for this blessed gift of nature a wide range of activities were organised for the students of classes (UKG -2) during the week (2-5 August 2021).

The students of class UKG were thrilled to see their teachers demonstrate how to make colourful origami boats. The children followed the instructions gleefully and made their own paper boats. They sailed these boats in tubs full of water and some even tried sailing them in the puddles outside.

Students of class 1 did the activity “My Pretty Peacock” during the Monsoon week celebrations. As they learned about their national bird, they created their own peacocks using the technique of hand printing. The pride and enthusiasm were very much visible during this activity in the online class.

Keeping the concept of magic of colours in mind “The Cloud and Rainbow Raindrops Activity” was organised for the students of class 2 during these Monsoon celebrations. The children did this art and craft activity and made colourful raindrops falling from their very own clouds.

Children showed a lot of zeal and wholeheartedly participated in these activities. The week long celebrations culminated with a sense of wonder and magic for this beautiful season called Monsoon. A lot of learning had happened just by doing!

ENGLISH RECITATION COMPETITION : CLASS IV

                                ENGLISH RECITATION COMPETITION

                                CLASS IV (04/08/2021)

It is said that understanding a poem or a passage, makes a person sensitive. Recitation gives a person a chance to express thoughts and emotions and gain confidence in public speaking.

Our class IV students too were provided with such a platform in the form of an English Recitation Competition held on 4th of August 2021. The students were given an option to choose between the theme ‘Family’ or ‘Friends’ for their recitation.

The enthusiastic entries were very encouraging and proved once again the love for language in children.

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words” – Robert Frost

The Theme for the competition was ‘Monsoon’, celebrating this special tropical season. The students explored various ideas related to the theme. Some students, who have a nimble way with words, presented self composed poems while others brought  alive poems written by other poets. The props were thrown in, guitars were strung, lightening created and the mood was set, clearly showing the unbridled enthusiasm from the participants. The beauty of the rain was perfectly captured in our participants’ expressive faces and well modulated voices. A bucketful of appreciation to all our participants. You are our little heroes. Many Congratulations to the winners!

International Tigers’ Day is celebrated on 29th July every year as a way to raise awareness about the magnificent but endangered big cat. Children of classes UKG and 1 marked this day by learning more about tigers and about the need for tiger conservation. Children of class 1 did a craft activity by folding origami sheet to make a paper tiger during their online classes. UKG children also enthusiastically indulged themselves in a tiger print activity. Children were overwhelmed on seeing the video of mother tiger and her cubs. The excitement in their actions and voice was noticeably visible. They enjoyed sharing fun facts about tigers. The classes also discussed the various reasons behind the extinction of tigers like poaching, cutting down of forests and climate changes etc.
