International Day of Persons with Disabilities Celebration (03 December 2024)
The Air Force School, Junior Wing celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December 2024 with great zest & zeal. In the spirit of the day, to honour children with special needs, the whole school participated in various discussions & activities. Children were sensitized about people with special needs & how as a society we can bring a paradigm shift by overlooking their disabilities & making them a valued part of our everyday lives.
Classes UKG & I were involved in a fun & interactive game, ‘High5’. Through this activity children spread the message that all are welcome & how our differences make us stronger how we must support one another. Classes II & III enjoyed doing the activity, ‘I see you’ in which children got an opportunity to empathize with people with special needs. Children appreciated that how the abilities of people with special needs overpower their disabilities. Classes IV & V played, ‘In your shoes’ wherein children were helped to empathize with people with special needs through various open ended hypothetical situations & enactment. The whole school held two minutes of silence as ‘mute time’ to pay respect to people with different abilities. To further bring the spirit of unity & love for nation, the day ended with National Anthem in sign language.
The intent of these celebrations was to help our children understand that there is ability in every disability and we must value one and all. Continuous similar celebrations will not only develop empathy among young minds but also create a environment of equality and positivism.
