‘NAAM HEE NAAM' ~A HINDI ART AND CRAFT ACTIVITY

‘NAAM HEE NAAM' ~A HINDI ART AND  CRAFT ACTIVITY (27 AUGUST 2020)

Naam shabd (nouns) are the building blocks of a language. The best way to teach a language is through the play way method or activity.  Having a noun activity can help us explain to the child why nouns are important.

A Hindi Noun activity, Naam Hee Naam,  was organised for the students of class II on 27th August 2020. The students learned to make a flow chart on naam shabd and categorise the nouns into vyakti, sthan and vastu/ jaanwar. They used pictures in their flow chart. They identified the nouns in their surroundings, books and news items. They not only learned about nouns but also started to take interest in their surroundings. Thus they learned  actively instead of passively taking on the information from their teachers.

The children made beautiful charts on naam shabd, clicked pictures with their creations and sent the images to their teachers. The beautiful charts now adorn their walls.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that has ever has.” – Margaret Mead

Taking this thought forward, an art and craft activity to make a paper bag out of newspapers, was organised for class I, on 25 August 2020. The objective of the activity was to encourage the students to reuse resources and instill in them the habit of recycling. The activity also helped to make them aware about the threat of plastic bags to the environment.

The students participated in this activity enthusiastically and showcased their creativity by decorating the paper bags with vibrant flowers, colours and many other decorations. They also learned to use some Hindi 'matras' when they wrote 'cM+s dke dk FkSyk' on their paper bags!

'THE RHYTHM OF RAIN SHOWERS' - CELEBRATING MONSOONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL

'THE RHYTHM OF RAIN SHOWERS' - CELEBRATING MONSOONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…..it’s about learning to dance in the rain”

The first drop of rain always brings smiles not only on our faces but also energizes our children as they love jumping in puddles, floating paper boats and dancing in monsoon showers forgetting all their worries. To celebrate Monsoons a range of activities were organised for students of all classes (UKG - V) during the week (17-21 August 2020), on the theme, 'The Rhythm of Rain Showers- Celebrating Monsoon'.

So we gave this not to miss oppurtunity to the children of UKG by organising an activity ‘Keep your boat afloat :let’s sail away'. Rhymes and stories celebrating the monsoons were narrated during activity period in the online class, to make the children aware of the importance of Monsoons in our lives. Teachers demonstrated how to make origami boats.  Children made colourful boats and sailed them in tubs full of water and even tried sailing their paper boats in the puddles outside .

Children of all classes in the junior wing celebrated this miracle of monsoon with songs composed by our music teacher  in raag Mia ki Malhar  which brought out the essesnce of rains through the most soothing rythym of music. Shades of green all around us and music of falling rain was  also enjoyed by the children of I & II through various rhymes and songs.

We took this Monsoon mania as a chance to make children learn academics through  a downpour of fun filled activities. The students of Class V were encouraged to make their own Terrariums for 'The Rainy Day’ projects. Making a terrarium is more than just assembling plants, rocks and earth together. It teaches kids – patience, foresight, vision and instills in them a sense of achievement while they go on to create something of their own. Through this activity, kids learnt and understood that Earth needs people to care for it too. Furthermore, it allowed kids to understand the delicate balance that keeps the life cycles intact. Some of them created near-perfect fairy gardens and Jurassic parks complete with twinkling lights and dark, ominous jungles.

Students of Class IV created their own illustration of water cycle using zip lock bags which helped them to understand the basic concepts like evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Students actively participated in this activity titled,  ‘What is up with the water cycle?’.

A rainbow is not just a combination of seven colours , infact it’s  a combination of happiness and joy. Keeping this concept of Magic of Colors in mind , a creative writing activity in English was organised for the students of class III during this Monsoon week celebrations. The children had to choose any 3 colours of the Rainbow and compose a poem on it describing things, the colour, taste and feel which reminded them of those colours. It was a pleasure to see the response of children and they presented their poems with beautiful drawings.

The students displayed a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm as they prepared to take on these wonderful activities during this week long celebration. With the Rain God on their side, the sudden spell of rainfall made it all the more fun!

DUSTBINS BLUE AND GREEN- CLASS I ACTIVITY
DUSTBINS BLUE AND GREEN- CLASS I ACTIVITY (18 AUGUST 2020)

A clean person is not the one who runs away from dirt but the one who takes the time and effort to tidy-up a dirty environment.
Keeping this point  of view, an art and craft activity was organised for class 1 on 18th August 2020.
The idea behind this activity was to create awareness among students regarding cleanliness, its benefits and the segregation of wastes in blue and green dustbins. They drew the two different coloured garbage bins and  displayed the wet and dry waste items thrown in them.
Children enjoyed doing this activity with great enthusiasm and also promised to ensure waste segregation at home in separate garbage bins. A small step towards making a huge difference!

Vocabulary, grammar and writing can be developed using art as a medium. Visuals can help students understand written word better. Good grammar makes the content  easier to read and understand .

Art can also be used to integrate different subjects like English and Maths. Such an activity was planned for the students of Class II on 20th August 2020. The children were given a story to read and were told to find out the proper nouns. These proper nouns where then artistically displayed on a slice of Pizza made out of geometric shapes like triangles and circles, which they were learning in the Maths. The  beautifully decorated Pizza slices were then photographed by the children and send to their class teachers. This hands-on activity proved to be a fun way to learn English and Math.

EVS Club - “Ban on Chinese Manja”

                  EVS Club

                    “Ban on Chinese Manja”

“Lets Celebrate Kite Day as Bird Protection Day by Saying NO to Manja”

With Independence Day round the corner, it’s that time of the year when colourful kites take over the Delhi sky, but not without injuries from the manja (string used to fly a kite).

Chemical manja" or "Chinese manja" is a relatively recent introduction. It is based on non biodegradable synthetic fibers. This makes it harder to break, which can be seen as unsportsman-like, and makes the string more dangerous to by standers and birds.

Keeping in view these harmful effects, Government has put a complete ban on production, storage and usage of this manja.

To create awareness about the harmful effects, students of EVS Club of The Air Force School presented inspirational speech so as to help students understand  that Kite flying is a recreational activity and it should not harm us as well as our environment.

The impactful speech by eco club warrior Padm Neelabh of 8A is an inspiration for our young students.

                      INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL

                      INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR SCHOOL

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” rightly said by Mahatama Gandhi goes well with this year’s theme of 74th Independence day, saluting the Covid Warriors and being Atma Nirbhar. Junior Wing of TAFS celebrated India’s Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on digital platform. The teachers spoke to the children about the importance of being self reliant and showing gratitude towards medical teams working worldwide in this time of pandemic. A lot of art and craft activities, dance, music, role play, poem recitation etc were organised for children.

The young kindergarteners and class I children loved enchanting ‘I Love India’ while proudly boasting their tricolor headbands and wristbands in their online classes. Class I also took a pledge to strive towards keeping the country clean and green. To instill a feeling of patriotism and to make the children become aware of the innumerable sacrifices made by our great leaders, Class II organized a fancy dress and role play activity. Children dressed up as great freedom fighters – Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subash Chandra Bose, etc. recited their famous slogans spreading the message of peace, non violence and love for the nation.

Class III children made badges in tricolor and proudly sported them on their chest for the whole week to mark respect and recognition for all our freedom fighters. Students of Class IV actively participated in an online dance competition on the theme of patriotism and their performances glorified our independence, our culture, bravery and traditions.

Class V participated in Hindi poem recitation competition and expressed their love and respect for the nation in the most simple, beautiful, impressive and widely effective way of saying things. The students came up with different poems on the themes, 'Deshbhakti', our country, farmers and soldiers, our progress and development  etc and recited their chosen poems with great fondness and zeal for the country.

The students of all the classes of Junior Wing learned and sang a medley of patriotic songs taught to them by their music teacher. They also enjoyed learning a beautiful dance full of energy on patriotic songs along with the dance teacher. Children of classes III-V also made posters and displayed them on a dedicated Independence wall in their homes and decorated it using tricolor streamers and kites to add on to the festive spirit.

The pandemic didn't wane the enthusiasm of the young TAFSians in the celebration of our national festival, Independence Day 2020, with great gusto!

'Maintaining one's culture, values and traditions is beyond price' ~ Getano Lui Jnr

Children learning about their cultural heritage helps them understand their uniqueness in society. The best way to teach about our heritage is by celebrating the customs and traditions that have been passed on through generations. To celebrate this festival of joy, fun and naughtiness of childhood, the children of TAFS Junior Wing did festival craft activities for Janamashtami, from 06-09 August 2020.

The students of UKG adorned the headgear with peacock feather made of paper and decorations and stole our heart with their mischievous smiles. Class I children made paper flute using newspaper roll, coloured paper, decorations and reminded us of Venugopal Rupa of Shri Krishna his lyrical and rhythmic self .The students of class II engaged in a 'Matka decoration activity'. In an artistic manner they learned about Shri Krishna, his antiques as a young boy where he would steal butter kept in the earthen pots with the help of his friends. As they decorated the matkas using mirrors , glitter, cotton and stars they learned about the story of Krishna Janmashtami and the triumph of good over evil. The students then clicked a photo with their art work and shared it with their class teachers

The online dance competition held on 06.08.2020 for class IV students to celebrate the 74th Independence Day proved to be a roaring success.  With an enthusiastic response from the students and ample support from the parents, it had to be.

The instructions had been carefully followed and the choice of song, props used, grace with which the students danced was laudable indeed. It was a pleasure to see all the participants give it their best shot and a challenge for the judges to decide on the winners.

RAKHSHABANDHAN ART & CRAFT ACTIVITY- UKG-II

                                RAKHSHABANDHAN ART & CRAFT ACTIVITY- UKG-II (30-31 JULY 2020)

Raksha Bandhan is a beautiful festival that  celebrates the unique and adorable bond of a brother and sister.
Any relationship needs constant care and nurturing and this was the objective behind teaching children about the importance of this festival. This year's Rakhi celebration focussed on emotional and social development of our students. Helping them to realise the importance of maintaining healthy relationships  and giving them the confidence required to develop new bonds in the future.
To celebrate this festival of love, art and craft activities were organised for the students of classes UKG- II on 30 & 31 July 2020. Class II children engaged in a ' Rakhi card making Activity'. The girls designed a card each wishing their brothers a safe and secure life and the boys designed a card for their sisters thanking them for their unflinching support and belief in them. The students decorated the cards using art materials like lace, mirrors and beads. The cards went to siblings who will in all probability cherish them for ever !
Children of classes UKG & I were digitally shown new and creative ways of making eco friendly rakhis at home with material easily available to them. They enjoyed a lot as they got an opportunity to  experiment and get messy with glue and various interesting craft materials. This activity showcased their confidence and enthusiasm in doing an activity with their family.  It was an absolute treat to watch them explore their creative side on this auspicious occasion.
