    CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR WING

    CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS- JUNIOR WING

This time of the year is known for saying thanks, sharing love and caring for others and this spirit is marked by one of the favourite festival of children ‘Christmas’. Children eagerly wait for Santa to deliver gifts and chocolates but unlike every year this year we celebrated this festival of winters, sitting at and enjoying the comfort of our homes. Children of TAFS Junior Wing actively participated in the fun activities organized online by the school. UKG children made Christmas tree, Santa Claus face mask and stick puppets in their online classes.

Children of class I made Christmas stocking to collect their gifts and also made Christmas Bells to mark the celebration. Class II decorated the Christmas tree and learnt about its conical shape. Class III, IV and V themselves welcomed Santa and its reindeer through their fine art work.

The students also sang melodious carols to wish their teachers and classmates.

      KHEL UTSAV 2020

      KHEL UTSAV 2020

Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong. –Alex Morgan (U.S. Women’s National Team Soccer player)

And we did practice, online, that too. And had so much fun. This being a new era of learning and doing new things in a new way, we went ahead with the exciting idea of having our annual sports meet virtually and nailed it.

The Junior Wing of TAFS celebrated the annual event, Khel Utsav, with childish eagerness and enthusiasm on 18th December 2020. Aptly themed, ‘Ojas’- Vitality of Mind and Body, the month long sports extravaganza which began on 23rd November, culminated with a live show of the children performing coordinated dances and drills to rhythmic music.

The day began with the Headmistress’ message stressing upon the importance of regular physical activity in the proper growth and development of children and doing it together as a family.

“Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” – Dean Karnazes. (author and American ultramarathon runner)  So, why let anything dampen our sporty spirit?

Highlighting the overall well being and happiness of children by facilitating their involvement and participation in sports has been the main aim of conducting this event online in spite of the challenges put across by the ongoing pandemic.

The KG children danced together wearing cute red dresses and the Class 1 children did the ‘Pogo’, casting spells with their magic wands.

Class 2 children performed some stretching and twisting exercises using decorated plates while the children of Class 3 showed us some neck exercises, yogasanas and meditation.

Children of Class 4 did a PT Drill using red coloured balls and Class 5 children danced to Bhangra beats.

The event was well organized and we can proudly claim that the costumes and accessories were resourcefully planned and the props were made by the children and taught to them in their online craft classes.

An array of simple, enjoyable activities were offered to the children at the beginning of the Khel Utsav month, to choose one as an individual sport, (Eg. Skipping the rope, dribbling/tossing a ball, skating/Hula Hoop, balancing a book, aerobic step exercises, etc.),  to be practiced every day and a video recording of the end result sent to their Class Teacher.

These activities achieved the objective of developing basic movement skills, agility, body balance, coordination, patience and focus.

Addressing the parents and students on this occasion, Principal ma’am congratulated the students and thanked the parents for their cooperation and constant support at each stage which helped make this event not only possible but a great success. Ma’am encouraged everyone to consider the benefits of playing sports and to remember that it is the best way to learn values, resilience and build character.

As Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” We did it!

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

          ‘With caring comes courage’

A virtual sensitization drive about, ‘International day of Persons with Disabilities’ was conducted for students of classes III to V of The Air Force School, Delhi. For this special cause, 7 to 11 December 2020 was marked as awareness week in student’s calendar. Students indulged in various activities to make people with special needs feel accepted & celebrated. The aim behind this initiative was to enlighten the spirit of inclusion amongst young minds.

We at TAFS have been striving to bring out a positive change in the lives of people who are in need of care and protection. Such endeavors are laying a firm ground for development of empathy, affection and unconditional positive regard among our students. As a part of this sensitization drive, students achieved an insight about the varied abilities of differently abled people.

The discussions lead a journey into the world of people with special needs who are unseen, unheard and on most occasions ignored. The enthusiastic minds of TAFS whole heartedly participated in the planned activities. Through the posters, slogans & poems not only their imaginative side was seen, but also their unconditional positive regard was reflected.

It was a profound experience for students and they were empowered enough to understand that people with disability are very much like us and their abilities speak louder than their disability.

‘Nothing that the heart gives away is ever lost, it is kept forever in the hearts of others’

CLASS II ENGLISH POEM RECITATION COMPETITION
CLASS II ENGLISH POEM RECITATION COMPETITION (04 DEC 2020)
“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.” ~ William Wordsworth

Poem recitation involves repeating a poem from memory in front of an audience. A child reciting a poem helps him) her build the presentation skills. It helps learn new vocabulary and comprehend their meaning. Children are also exposed to patterns in the language which they can later use in their own writings. Recitation also gives them a sense of achievement and pride and builds their confidence.
An English Poem Recitation Competition was held for the students of Class II on 4th December 2020.The theme for the poems was ‘Nature’. The children were judged on their pronunciation, content, clarity of speech and confidence.
The students recorded an uninterrupted video of their recitation and sent it to their class teachers. The children recited the poems in their inimitable boisterous style with passion and succinct intelligence. Some poems were dramatic while others were solemn. The students impressed the teachers with their memorization and presentation skills.
            The results are as follows:

EARBUD DOT PAINTING ACTIVITY- CLASS UKG
EARBUD DOT PAINTING ACTIVITY- CLASS UKG (26 NOV 2020)
Dot Painting art is a perfect way to start building the foundations for drawing and writing. When held correctly, the exact muscles in the hand and fingers used for a pencil grasp get strong. It also encourages visual attention and develops creativity.
With this objective in mind an earbud dot painting activity was organised for UKG students on 26.11.20. As the topic of aquatic animals was being discussed this week during the online class, the weekly activity was also planned around the same. Holding the earbuds and using bright colours to paint a fish was a fun-filled experience. This activity not only helped in fine motor skills development but also in colour recognition and aesthetic development of children. It also helps learn writing letters and numbers and develop a child's confidence.
Their happy faces and beautiful paintings  brightened our day too!
