THIRD MASTERMIND VIRTUAL QUIZ COMPETITION – CLASSES IV-V (23 JAN 2021) 

Quiz events are an interesting way to enhance one’s learning .They also help to keep us aware of the events happening around us. Keeping the motto ‘Learning never stops’ in mind, the 3rd edition of the Mastermind G.K Quiz event was organised for classes IV & V in Jan 2021. This virtual quiz was conducted in two rounds.

Round I: Written Online round comprising of 20 questions in MCQ format for all students was conducted on 12 Jan. 2021 on student portal.

(Questions were asked from subscribed GK book, current affairs and the state of Sikkim, CBSE's Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat project State for Delhi)

Round 1 was open to all students of classes IV and V and they participated in it enthusiastically. On the basis of the scores achieved by them, 27 students of classes IV and V were shortlisted for the next level of the online quiz.

Round II:  Oral round of 'Rapid Fire' questions (for top scorers of Round 1) was conducted on 23 Jan. 2021.

(Questions pertaining to current affairs and general awareness)

Round II of the quiz was conducted on TEAMS platform. All 27 students were divided into 4 time slots from 8:30 am to 10:30 a.m. A link to join the virtual quiz meeting was also sent to the students via WhatsApp, with a set of instructions on how to join the meeting.

A panel of three teachers had worked on preparing the rules, syllabus, quiz questions, score analysis and result compilation etc. so as to conduct the quiz in a fair manner for all the students. The Quiz Master conducted the 'Rapid Fire' round with each child.

The final result is as follows:

Class V:  1st  position :  Ishayu Bhowmick VA

                2nd position :  Kaustubh Pathak VB, Ananya Mishra VC , Aadya Vats VE

Class IV:  1st position :  Vivaan Upreti  IVC

                2nd position :  Mahima Singh IVA                         

E-certificates were awarded to all the winners.

    INTER SECTION YOGA COMPETITION

    Intersection Yoga Competition was organized by physical education department from 18th January to 22nd January 2021 for classes VI to VIII during their physical education period.

    Six students (three boys and three girls) as a team were selected to represent their sections. There was a spectacular and beautiful display of talent, confidence, strength and flexibility by the Yoga performers. The participants were adjudged on the basis of flexibility, grace and correctness of posture etc. This competition endeavoured to provide a platform to the students to exercise their yoga skills.

    The competition was full of talent, creativity and alertness. The students of all the classes were at their best. Spontaneity and confidence were the hallmark of the competition. These five days of competition were full of practice, learning and understanding.

      SERIES OF MATH TALK

      REPORT::    SERIES OF MATH TALK

      “MATH IN DAY TO DAY LIFE”

      As we all know that, Math is much more than mere addition and subtraction of numbers. We at TAFS feel it is imperative for every child to understand and explore the great potential of this subject. In connection to the above, we are appreciating an interesting series of ‘Talk Shows’ organized by Unmath School.

      UnMath School bring in experienced individuals from all walks of life to give the children a better perspective of the application of mathematics in their day to day life. Many students of our school had become a part of the it in these Math talks. Till date the students of TAFS had been a part of THREE such talk shows. The topic for which were:

      1. 12th October 2020 :    Learn math with a Real estate Expert
      2. 7th December 2020:   Learn math with a Popsicle maker
      3. 16th January 2021 :    Learn math with a Comic

      These are the Global Math Talk wherein students from all across the globe witness how Math is involved in different fields of day to day life.

      Students’ feedback :

      • Found it interesting the way maths is related with comedy.
      • We had fun based learning experience and found it useful.
      • It was how mathematics can be made fun by collaborating it with comedy.
      • They taught Maths formulas by telling stories so it was fun
      • It was an interesting show. As it showed the simple math which is applied even in making a comic.
      • students found it relaxing and stress relieving
      • Like if we make a comic we have to take Care of many things such as the publishing of the comic so maths is applied there.

        Republic day is a remarkable day in the history of India as on this day the constitution of India came into effect. To make it memorable in these changing times Junior Wing of TAFS celebrated the virtual Republic Day, 2021 with full fervor and zeal. 
        As a part of celebrations several online events were organized. Children of classes UKG, I and II proudly participated in tricolour art and craft activities on 20th and 21st of January. 
         
        The students of classes III-V participated in several activities on 25th of January and celebrated the whole day with a festive feeling. Children decorated their homes with Indian flags and posters and adorned tricolour clothes and duppattas to mark this national festival.
        Class III children sang melodious patriotic songs to mark the occasion, the enthusiasm while singing these songs was contagious and even the parents happily joined the celebration with the children, holding their head high in pride of their nation.
         
        Class IV organized an oration activity ‘Know your state’ in which children researched about the state of India allotted to them and spoke a few lines about that state. This activity was specially designed to let the children know about the various cultures of united but diverse India. Children also recited poems and sang patriotic songs. They were also introduced to the constitution of India and the meaning of Republic through various videos and classroom discussions. Children participated in an online tricolour wristband making activity and posed for pictures happily.
         
        The students of Class V had an interactive session with their class teachers and expressed their views on the constitution of India.  The discussion brought to light the founding values of our constitution as mentioned in the ‘The Preamble’. The session ended with a fun quiz. They recited poems, danced and sang patriotic songs. The students also did a live activity of a ‘Badge making’ with ‘Proud Indian’ written on it. 
         
        Patrotism was the flavour of the day as the future citizens of the world’s largest democracy dressed up in tricolours, with some of them even painting their cheeks. It was a day to once again celebrate ‘Being Indian’.

          Nehru Planetarium Webinar on – Beautiful world of Birds

          Nehru Planetarium organized a Webinar on – Beautiful world of Birds by Sipu Kumar.

          (Research Scholar, Wildlife institute Dehradun), on 13th January at 3.00pm.

          It was attended by – Saksham, Prateek, Aarush from VIII – B and Mrs Rashmi Puri

          The webinar was very informative giving an insight into Different variety of birds, their habitats, eating habits and migratory behaviour.

          Mr. Kumar shared beautiful slides of shapes of beaks, colourful features, and sounds of birds. He taught children how to identify birds too.

          Nature walks were promised too once the Corona conditions ease.

            HOME SCIENCE DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITY REPORT

            The Home Science Departmental activities were conducted from 14 December 2020 to 18 December 2020.

            Recipes of Christmas Foods such as Banana Strawberry Snowman\Fruity candy cane, Reindeer sandwich etc. were shared with students of classes VI, VII and VIII. The students participated with enthusiasm and vigor in the activity. With the Christmas Season approaching soon, the activity was found to be a rage amongst the children. They loved to learn new and healthier recipes that they could make themselves and enjoy with friends and family.

            The students of classes IX,X and XI were given tasks of making Sikkimese cuisine such as Thukpa and Momos/dumplings. This too received a positive response as it is today one of the most popular cuisines of the nation. The activity made the students aware about the beautiful state of Sikkim as well as the other delicacies of the state.
