Flow India Programme - Class V

The students of class V visited Hauz Khas Baoli and Sulabh international museum of toilets on 11th September, 2013, as a part of the ‘Flow India’ programme, based on the theme ‘Delhi-stories of water: Ancient world and modern’.
On 10 September 2013 the Flow facilitators introduced the students to the theme and took them through a power point presentation to create awareness about this programme. They were also given some worksheets which had some interesting activities which everyone enjoyed doing.
At Hauz Khas Baoli children learnt about how people tackled problems related to water in the past and how the scarcity of water brought about the existence of this public facility in the form of a rain water catchment area during Allaudin Khilji’s reign.
To link the past with the present, children were made to be aware of the importance of sanitation at Sulabh International Museum of Toilets. The Flow India facilitators provided the children with worksheets filled with activities based on this theme. The children learnt how public sanitation facilities can be utilised in a very eco-friendly manner. They saw the usage of bio gas for cooking and generating electricity. They were amazed to know that the entire complex runs on the gas generated from the waste.
They also did some more worksheets full of activities based on the theme. So as to share this experience with their parents some worksheets have been designed for the family to do together, when the children carry them home after the visit to Hauz Khas Baoli and Sulabh international museum.
This was an enriching educational visit where the eager students learnt about our precious resource, water and the eco friendly energy solution, for the future, through practical demonstration.

The second edition of the inter school literary event, ‘The Wordsmiths’ Meet’ was organized by the Primary Wing, for the students of classes III–V, on 04 September, 2013. Words are the first expressions of human thoughts and to celebrate these thoughts and also the talents of young children, one event for each class was organised.

The chief guest of the event was Ms. Shobha Lidder, an educationist  with a rich experience of teacher training and a poetess. Twelve reputed schools of Delhi, NCR participated in the event. What made it a huge success among the children was that it was designed not to be a competition but a platform for them to learn from each other and get enriched by the valuable feedback of the guests who were present at each venue.

This meet was divided into three separate events, held at different venues. The details are as follows:

              ·         Class III- ‘Poetic Reflexions’ – Poem Recitation.

              ·         Class IV-  ‘Ad It Up’ - Advertise a dream product that can be manufactured and used in future.

              ·         Class V- ‘Say It with Puppets’ – Story narration using puppets.

The chief guest and the other esteemed guests with a plethora of experience observed the performances and provided their expert feedback to the children.

As this event was not a competition, all the participants left our school on a happy note and with a desire to return next year.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. We, at TAFS Junior Wing will always endeavor to turn these small steps into bigger leaps.

              Until the next ‘Wordsmiths’ Meet’!

                Story Naration - Class UKG

Our tiny tots of kindergarten were taken on a ride to magical/amazing world of fairy tales and stories, in their class rooms, on 30 Aug 2013. A special treat was waiting for them when they entered their respective classes. Their favourite stories were dramatized and depicted using various props and enactment by their class teacher, who also involved the children to develop the story.

These stories not only entertained and enthralled our teeny weenie’s but also educated and motivated them and helped teachers in reinforcing  values and virtues. Students were also given an opportunity to retell and create their own stories to develop confidence and hone their speaking skills. This magical journey included art and craft activities and singing of songs too. Children showed great excitement and had fun throughout the day.
