Visit Report: Class IV Students

Visit Report

Class IV Students

‘Let us label Jars, not people’

All students of class IV visited AFGJI Special Wing under the ‘Share & Care’ programme initiated by the Institution. The school curriculum not only lays emphasis on academics and co-curricular activities, but equally focuses on instilling life skills amongst students. In order to get acquainted with the world of differently able people, students performed this interactive visit.

During this visit, students individually interacted with children of Special Wing. This interaction was of great relevance as our students were seen displaying utmost care, patience and indulgence. Our students were constantly making an attempt to bring cheer and smiles on the faces of their newly made friends. Our students participated in colouring, fine-motor, audio-visual and academic activities with the students there.

Our students carried fond memories of their newly made friends by sharing their experiences with other students at TAFS. The experience was not only profound but equally enlightening as our students gained empathy in return. It was an insightful experience for our students and surely a learning for life which will surely be constant.

    WORKSHOP : NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK

REPORT ON WORKSHOP CONDUCTED ON 9,10,11,12 JAN 2024 ON THE TOPIC

    NATIONAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK

The NCF (National Curriculum Framework) is a guide to school education and aims to create a balanced teaching learning environment in schools. Taking cognizance of the need to make everyone aware of the contents of the NCF, the Headmistress, Ms DeepaRadhakrishnan conducted a  workshop on 9,10,11,12 Jan 2024 in four sessions for the entire staff of the Junior Wing, highlighting certain relevant aspects of the NCF.

She explained in great detail the nitty gritty of the methodologies of free play, guided play and structured play suggested in the NCF and made the workshop interactive with a lot of  interesting activities. She dealt at length with how teaching can be made effective with the use of play way method, various tools, group exercises, stimulations, group discussions, role-play and use of visual aids. She discussed how a teacher can be creative and do a lot of things with the resources available in the school as well as at home. Many teaching aids can be made out of simple household items easily available to us. Hand puppets were made using newspapers, sticks, old socks etc and used for story narration. These puppets can easily be made by students for using as props for various activities they do at school. Stressing upon language and literary development, she explained the concept of ‘Content in Context’ with suitable examples.'Parking space' on the white board is an innovative way of assuring children that all their queries will be addressed in due time. She brought out the fact that children can be taken out in nature to explore and learn a lot of scientific concepts which can be easily grasped by them as compared to just reading and explaining the concept in class. It was shown how clay can be used to create different things that trigger the young kid’s imagination. Building blocks can also  be used to create new and different structures as opposed to the typical  way of using them. The workshop showcased that there are myriad ways to make the teaching learning experience extremely gratifying for both the teacher and the students.

Curriculum does not mean only teaching the given syllabus and assessment of the same but it has a broader meaning and vision which refers to  the entire experience of making the teaching learning process all encompassing. The workshop splendidly achieved the  said purpose . It was an enriching experience for all the teachers as they got valuable insights in making their teaching- learning experiences more effective with the use of innovative TLMs and methodologies.
